Google has unveiled a new native search application for Nokia S60 3rd Edition handsets. The application places a Google search box on the standby screen and allows the user to quickly and easily conduct a Google search, with results being returned quickly, using the handset's internet connection.

To download and install the application, users should direct their handset's web browser to mobile.google.com (which, coincidentally, is a great resource for quick access to all of Google's mobile services on any handset) and choose the 'Search (Download)' link. The application will be installed, and the edit key can be used to activate it. Newer handsets such as the N81 8GB and N82, which lack the edit key, can set the application as an Active Standby shortcut, but will lose the home screen applet functionality.
